I have a new product available just in time for the gift giving season. Are you someone who loves giving handmade gifts? A beginner sewer who needs simple but beautiful projects to increase confidence? Or do you love surrounding yourself with your own DIY projects? Well this tea towel kit is the perfect thing for you. You get to use some of my hand-dyed fabric to make a bunch of beautiful tea towels. Keep them for yourself or gift them out this holiday season.
The Kit is available in 2 different fabrics. Do you love the classic look and feel of LINEN? The crisp yet soft elegance of this fabric is unmatched and a dream to sew with. The other fabric is a very cool organic COTTON that is a double weave with a slight check pattern. It is buttery soft, very absorbent and an all round kitchen work horse.
The Kits also come in 2 formats; 4 tea towels or 2.
Included in the kit along with the fabric are 4 "made with love" labels (for extra DIY cuteness) and 4 ribbons that you could use as a loop. It also comes with instructions on how to sew them.
Here are some examples of the colour ways available :
Below I will lay out the simple instructions on how to make these beauties. The kit comes with instructions but I will leave this here in case you need it!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1.Most of the fabric pieces are designed to be cut into 4. If you bought a piece that makes 2 then you only cut once. To start, fold the fabric selvage to selvage and cut along the fold. Then, with each piece, fold it again, serged edge to serged edge and cut along that fold. You should now have 4 equal rectangles.
2. Take each piece to the ironing board and give it a good iron. Decide which side you would like to be the front and the back. With the back facing up, iron the edges about 1/4” over. Once the whole edge of the rectangle has been ironed over you can either fold it over once more about 3/8” or you can take it directly to your sewing machine and fold it over the second time using the edge as a guide. Sew with a regular stitch length about 1/4” from the edge. Before getting to the corner, make sure it is all folded up neatly and then sew to the edge and pivot before moving on to the next edge.
3. If you would like to add the ribbon to form a loop you will need to decide where you want it before you hem. Generally the centre of the long side is a great placement but that is entirely up to you! Tuck it into the hem before you sew.
4. Sew the “made with love” label onto one of the corners on the back.
5. Repeat with the other 3 towels.
Your tea towels are done! Congrats! Please share this collaboration on socials. I love to see what people make out of my fabrics @francesfelt #elevateyourmake
